TIRES FAIL TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF ENDURANCE TEST FMVSS # 109. FAILURE WAS DUE TO HIGHER THAN SPECIFIED SECOND PLY ANGLE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE INCORRECT SECOND PLY ANGLE CAUSED CHAFING OF PLIES IN THE BEAD BASE AREA. A CHAFED PLY CAN RESULT IN SUDDEN AIR LOSS AND VEHICLE CRASH MAY OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THE INVOLVED TIRES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 109, NEW PNEUMATIC TIRES, DUE TO AN UNDERCURE CONDITION IN THE TREAD AREA. CONTINUED USE COULD RESULT IN TREAD CHUNKING OR TREAD SEPARATION, LEADING TO AIR LOSS.
